We will show treasury looters no mercy – Buhari

Gen. Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to be ruthless with those who are charged with looting the country’s treasury.
He said his administration would uncompromisingly pursue the anti-graft war until Nigerians start to see how the nation’s elite conspired to ruin the country.
“We will be merciless and relentless in pursuing all those who abused public trust. Nigerians will see how some of the elite conspired to run the nation down,” the President said.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke during an interactive session he had with Nigerians in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
Buhari said he would not entertain any fear in his quest to rid the nation of corruption by bringing those who compromised their positions to book.
Already, the fight has seen the arraignment of many high profile Nigerians in court, most prominent being former National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) who is charged with diverting $2.1 billion meant for the fight against Boko Haram to political associates and cronies.
Former Minister of Interior Comrade Abba Moro has also been charged for the N650 million Immigration recruitment scandal which claimed the lives of 19 job seekers. Even though the tragedy took place in 2014, the administration of Goodluck Jonathan did nothing about it.
President Buhari also condemned the recent political violence in Rivers State. He said killing people over political differences was primitive, barbaric and unacceptable.
“We will deal decisively with all sponsors of violence. I have given the security services clear directives in this regard.
“We will show that violence in any form will no longer be tolerated before, during or after elections,” he said.
Nigerians should therefore brace themselves. This promises to be a long, drawn-out war.
